{"id":1629,"date":"2025-07-04T15:57:27","date_gmt":"2025-07-04T13:57:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rhu-shiva.com\/en\/?p=1629"},"modified":"2025-11-12T15:58:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T14:58:20","slug":"better-understanding-cognitive-disorders-in-cerebral-small-vessel-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rhu-shiva.com\/en\/blog\/2025\/07\/04\/better-understanding-cognitive-disorders-in-cerebral-small-vessel-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"Better understanding cognitive disorders in cerebral small vessel disease"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On <strong>July 4, 2025<\/strong>, a new ancillary study to the SHIVA cohort was launched at <strong>Bordeaux University Hospital (CHU de Bordeaux)<\/strong>: the <strong>SHIVA-CogNeurophys study<\/strong>, sponsored by the CHU.<br>This study aims to <strong>better understand cognitive disorders<\/strong> (particularly memory and attention impairments) associated with <strong>cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD)<\/strong> \u2014 a common brain condition that can lead to <strong>strokes<\/strong> and <strong>progressive cognitive decline<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd2c An innovative exploratory study<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SHIVA-CogNeurophys<\/strong> seeks to explore, through <strong>non-invasive approaches<\/strong>, how the brain functions during simple cognitive tasks and how these functions are altered in CSVD.<br>Participants \u2014 all from the <strong>SHIVA cohort<\/strong> at Bordeaux University Hospital \u2014 will undergo:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Electroencephalogram (EEG)<\/strong> recordings of brain activity,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mild brain stimulation<\/strong> using transcranial alternating current stimulation (<strong>tACS<\/strong>),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And <strong>personalized cognitive training at home<\/strong> through computer-based exercises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<cite>\ud83e\udd1d Voluntary and supervised participation<br>The study will last <strong>6 months<\/strong>, including <strong>5 scheduled hospital visits<\/strong>. It will involve <strong>80 voluntary patients<\/strong> enrolled in the SHIVA cohort at CHU de Bordeaux, subject to eligibility criteria. <strong>Travel expenses are covered.<\/strong><br>While this research has <strong>no immediate therapeutic purpose<\/strong>, it could ultimately pave the way for <strong>new strategies to manage cognitive disorders<\/strong> in this disease, which remains little known to the general public.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2696\ufe0f An ethical approach respecting participants\u2019 rights<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Participation is entirely voluntary and conducted under a <strong>strictly supervised protocol<\/strong>, approved by an <strong>Ethics Committee for the Protection of Individuals<\/strong>.<br>All personal data are
