Very excited to share the new collaborative publication in JAMA Network Open led by Dr. Muralidharan Sargurupremraj<\/a> and involving RHU SHIVA<\/a> researchers: \u00ab\u00a0Cerebral Small Vessel Disease, Blood Pressure, and Dementia<\/strong><\/em>\u00ab\u00a0. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u27a1 Using mendelian randomization, this study showed: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

– a putative causal association of larger white matter hyperintensity (WMH) burden<\/strong> with increased Alzheimer disease risk<\/strong> after accounting for pulse pressure effects, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

– an association<\/strong> of<\/strong> lower blood pressure <\/strong>with Alzheimer disease risk<\/strong> with possible confounding by shared genetic instruments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udcc8 Longitudinal analyses on individual-level data supported the association of genetically determined larger WMH<\/strong> with incident all-cause dementia and Alzheimer disease<\/strong>, independently of interim stroke. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udca1 These findings suggest that white matter hyperintensity is a primary vascular factor associated with dementia risk, emphasizing its significance in preventive strategies for dementia. Future studies are warranted to examine whether this finding can be generalized to non-European populations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
